RSO Sworn Position Hiring Procedure
This office has established the following guidelines for hiring personnel. If an existing employee wishes to apply for a sworn position, they must follow the same hiring procedure as a new applicant. An applicant shall be disqualified if they fail to meet the minimum requirements listed below. The Sheriff, at his discretion, may deviate from this procedure as needed
(1.)Preliminary Employment Application
The applicant must complete and submit the Preliminary Employment Application.
(2.)Physical Agility Test
Applicants will be required to participate in a PAT that consists of four separate activities:
- push-ups (untimed)
- sit-ups (timed)
- 300-meter shuttle run (timed)
- agility course (timed)
Please email Sergeant Havens at chavens@rockwallcountytexas.com to confirm that you will be attending. Reminder that you will need to bring your signed and notarized waiver. You will not be allowed to participate without the waiver. Applicants who are unable to attend the above scheduled PAT will have to reapply through the on-line county portal to re-start the employment process. If an Applicant misses three physical agility test dates, they will be considered ineligible for employment for 12 months.
(3.)Personal History Statement
After the successful completion of the Physical Agility Test, the applicant will be provided a Personal History Statement to be completed within a time specified by the test coordinator.
(4.)Oral Board
The Oral Board consists of an interview before Rockwall County Sheriff's Office employees.
(5.)Background
An applicant must pass an in-depth background investigation performed by the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office.
(6.)Final Interview
Applicants will be interviewed by the Sheriff or his designee for final approval or denial.
(7.)Medical
- Pass Physical Exam/Drug Test
- Pass Psychological Exam
- Pass Polygraph Exam (subject to change)
(8.)Eligibility List for Hiring
To remain eligible for hiring, applicants must provide updated information by submitting an amendment to their application that will become a part of the original application.
